Warren Local approves nearly $3 million in May payments, updates budget figures, insurance premiums and student meal pricing

The Warren Local Board of Education on May 27 approved routine treasury actions including payment of bills and the district’s financial reports for May and reviewed amended FY2026 revenue and appropriation figures.
In RES. NO. 34-26 (motion by Mr. Crum, second by Mr. Pettey) the board approved minutes, payment of bills and other expenses for May 2026 in the amount of $2,984,454.25 and accepted financial reports and investment records (including $454.60 deposited to the Permanent Improvement Fund as investment earnings). The resolution also authorized participation in the Ohio School Boards Association Workers’ Compensation Group Retro Program (with Sedgwick as third-party administrator) and membership in the Southeastern Ohio Voluntary Education Cooperative (SEOVEC) self-funded dental insurance program with Delta Dental, Inc. for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 at a 2% increase.
The board reviewed FY2026 fund-by-fund estimates showing a grand total reported in materials as $49,008,086 (amended $49,357,780) across General, Special Revenue, Debt Service, Capital Projects, Enterprise and other funds.
Health insurance changes: The board reviewed renewal figures effective July 1, 2026. Examples from the presented schedule: PPO single total increases from $1,779.07 to $1,865.00; PPO family increases from $3,608.32 to $3,782.00; HD single total from $1,260.25 to $1,321.00; HD family from $3,204.65 to $3,359.00. These were presented as part of the Treasurer's business for board approval.
Student meals and à la carte pricing: The district presented proposed prices for 2026–2027 showing Student Breakfast and Student Lunch listed as 'No Cost' (reduced and student lunch categories also indicated no cost under the schedule); adult lunch is listed at $5.50 and a variety of à la carte items and prices were detailed for elementary, middle and high schools. The meal-pricing schedule was presented for board approval as part of the business agenda.
Board vote and next steps: RES. NO. 34-26 and the associated financial and pricing items were approved with all five board members recorded as 'yes' on the roll calls. The Treasurer and administration will proceed with implementing the approved programs, benefits enrollments and pricing for the 2026–2027 school year as recorded in board materials.
