Warren board gives first reading to policy updates tied to HB 96

The Warren Local Board of Education gave a first reading to a slate of new and revised policies that the Policy committee recommended following changes in state law, specifically citing House Bill 96 as the primary driver of the updates. Mr. Roush, speaking for the committee, said the updates were reviewed at a 4:30 p.m. committee meeting and that the committee recommends them for first reading.
Policies presented for first reading included (but were not limited to) bidding requirements (DJC), programs for students who are gifted (IGBB), cocurricular and extracurricular activities (IGD), interscholastic athletics (IGDJ), grading systems (IKA), graduation requirements (IKF), cybersecurity (EHC), student transportation services (EEA), and policies addressing religious expression and ceremonial observances. The list was introduced for first reading (RES. NO. 19-26); first reading does not constitute final adoption.
Board members recorded their support for moving the policies through first reading; further committee review, public input (if required), and subsequent readings or adoption votes will follow the board’s standard policy-adoption process.
