Hewitt — The Hewitt City Council recognized a wave of recent public-safety hires and promotions at its June 15 meeting, swearing in police officer Mark Rogers and pinning several newly hired and promoted firefighters.
City Manager Thomas introduced Officer Mark Rogers, who joined the Hewitt Police Department earlier this month after a 27-year law-enforcement career that included the U.S. Border Patrol and other agencies. Chief McGrath administered the oath; Rogers will complete department-specific refresher training and field training before full patrol assignment. "We're happy to have him here," Thomas said.
The Fire Department performed multiple pinning ceremonies and promotions. New firefighters who started in May and June included Joshua Murphy, Taylor Ivy, Dominic Austin, Jacob Bogs, Elliot Smeltzer and Kaden Jagger. Promotions included engineer/driver positions for Chris Christian, Paul Sanderford, Zachary Chelli, Canon Clinton and Riley Patton, and a promotion to lieutenant for Sam Morgan. Chief McGrath said the recent hiring surge reflects departmental growth and creates a stronger training pipeline from local academies.
Council and staff thanked families and the departments for their service and welcomed the new personnel.
