Manley board adopts $305,000 budget and sets 2024–25 property tax request at $35,047

Vice Chairman Tim Glas called the Village of Manley Board of Trustees to order Sept. 12 and the board recessed for a budget public hearing at 7:10 p.m. Budget presenter Stephanie DeGroot reviewed the proposed 2024–25 budget and said the village’s budgeted expenses for 2024–25 are $305,000. “The Village can spend less than the budget but not more,” DeGroot said during the hearing.
After the presentation the board voted to adopt the proposed budget. Patricia Gruber moved to approve the budget and Phillip Tapp seconded; Tapp, Gruber, Marcie LaFleur and Glas voted yes, and Denise Swenson was recorded as excused.
The board then read and adopted Resolution 2024-02, which sets the village’s 2024–25 property tax request at $35,047 for the General Fund and records a proposed tax rate of 0.267656 per $100 of assessed value. The resolution notes the village’s total assessed value changed by 0.33 percent from the prior year and states the operating budget will change by 5.54 percent compared with last year’s adopted budget. The resolution directs the clerk to certify a copy to the county clerk on or before Oct. 15, 2024.
No substantive public objections to the budget were recorded in the hearing. The budget adoption followed the procedures required by state law and the board’s roll-call vote was recorded in the minutes.
The board will file the adopted documents as required and the clerk will proceed with certification to Cass County by the Oct. 15 deadline.
