Malcolm trustees discuss dust control and seek more bids for chip-sealing gravel roads

Trustees spent part of their Sept. 4 meeting discussing options to control dust on Malcolm’s gravel roads and initial pricing for chip sealing.
Resident Doug Alms told the board the village is still exploring ways to manage dust on all gravel roads within the corporate limits. The board reviewed a quote from TopKote to chip-seal village roads but said it wanted to collect multiple bids before deciding.
Trustee Little asked the Village Attorney to consult with a bond agent about whether some of the expense could be assessed back to homeowners whose property abuts the gravel roads, an option the board will evaluate as it compares contractor quotes. The board tabled the item pending additional bids and legal/financial advice.
Separately, Mr. Alms also raised a park-maintenance concern, reporting the flag at the big park was getting caught on tree branches; Malcolm maintenance staff agreed to trim the tree.
