Malcolm trustees approve water-tower contract, meter installation and routine village business

The Village of Malcolm Board of Trustees voted July 10 to approve a series of routine contracts and budget actions, including hiring Viking Industrial Painting for water-tower maintenance and selecting Codr Plumbing and Excavating to install new radio-read water meters once EPA approval is received.
Trustee Little moved to hire Viking Industrial Painting for tank cleaning, visual inspections, interior renovation, exterior overcoat and ongoing maintenance; Lemkau seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Trustee Little later moved to hire Codr Plumbing and Excavating to install the radio-read water meters contingent on EPA approval; Benes seconded and the motion also passed 5–0.
Other votes included approval of the treasurer’s report showing June disbursements of $106,877.46 and deposits of $78,299.09; forgiveness of an Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation SENDD grant for 140 N. Lincoln Street after the owner relocated outside village limits; renewal of village insurance under Resolution 2024-03; and approval of a revised legal-services agreement with Solheim Law Office. The board also approved a First Amendment to an interlocal agreement with Lancaster County to reflect increased striping costs, and passed Resolution 2024-04 to exceed restricted-fund budget limits by 1% for fiscal year 2024–2025.
Trustees approved equipment purchases to support public works operations, including a grader and smooth bucket for a recently acquired skid steer for approximately $5,000; the purchase motion was moved by Tarr and seconded by Benes and passed 5–0. The board also approved a building permit for a deck at 11707 West Bluff Road.
All recorded motions carried by recorded roll-call votes of 5–0 where enumerated. The meeting adjourned at 10:48 p.m.
What happens next: The water-meter installation will proceed once the Village receives EPA approval; other items—such as the drafted legal agreement for the ballfield complex—will return to the board at upcoming meetings.
