The Hickman City Council voted to accept a low bid of $697 from Gana Excavating to demolish a city-owned blighted building at 6700 Hickman Road, a location councilors said has limited reuse in its current condition.
Councilors discussed the property, noting past consideration of reuse and that demolition likely costs less than full rehabilitation. A councilor observed that, depending on a future lease arrangement, a modest monthly lease could recoup the demolition cost within a year.
Related on the same parcel: council reviewed a proposed 10-year lease and easement with ALLO Communications for a small utility facility at the site. Members raised questions about floodplain placement, access easements, building removal at lease end, and site elevation. Councilors agreed they wanted an ALLO representative and additional technical details before acting and voted to table the lease until the Feb. 25 meeting, directing staff to invite an ALLO representative to respond to questions.
What happens next: the city will proceed with demolition under the approved $697 bid; the ALLO lease and easement discussion will return on Feb. 25 with staff-supplied information and (if available) an ALLO representative to answer council questions.
