Heritage Farm Commission begins planning for 250th ‘Freedom 250’ events and artifact display

The Heritage Farm Commission began planning its 250th Freedom Celebration, proposing a Living History Weekend for Sept. 26–27 and asking members to reflect on past event elements to guide programming, Chair Arlene Fiano said.
Pam Sawyer asked the commission to publicize a May 19 in-costume presentation and Q&A at the High School Commons Room; the commission agreed to follow the National Park Service rebranding from “America 250” to “Freedom 250” for upcoming events.
Commissioners discussed program ideas that include an in-ground dug oven demonstration, improved signage, community engagement strategies, and rotating seasonal storyboards. Members also said they will consult the State Archaeologist before releasing Rich Rose artifacts for public display, and that most of the related grant will be used for curation.
Chair Fiano said she will suggest a morning meeting series with administrative staff to advance planning and publicity.
