Heritage Farm Commission to update business plan, presses for septic-system inclusion

The Heritage Farm Commission scheduled a workshop for Feb. 8 to begin revising its business plan, with a goal of completing the update in the third quarter and presenting it to the Board of Selectmen, Chair Arlene Fiano said.
Fiano said the plan will be provided to J. Rupert before the commission presents to the BOS and recommended the commission prepare cost estimates and concrete proposals to improve readiness for future recreation and infrastructure grant opportunities.
Members discussed a recent recreation grant that was allocated to the Town Green for regrading to reduce flooding and associated cancellation of town events; the decision, Fiano said, was made at a selectmen meeting and required quick action because the grant needed to be spent by July.
Fiano raised a concern that the community septic-system update did not explicitly include the farm in the written plan, although she said she had been assured by J. Rupert that the farm’s projected use had been accounted for. The commission agreed to highlight the need for a written inclusion of the farm’s projected use when updating the business plan for the BOS presentation.
The commission also noted outstanding projects affecting future capacity and programming, including the planned LOTCIP trail-design work and the need to align facility plans with any infrastructure upgrades.
