At its Dec. 11 meeting the Limington select board signed and opened a warrant for a special town meeting to be held Thursday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. Article 1 will be to choose a moderator; Article 2 asks voters to transfer $30,000 from the general town operations fund into the sanitation budget to cover underbudgeted 2025 tonnage and hauling fees.
The board voted to open and then close the special town meeting warrant during the Dec. 11 session; the motion passed on an oral unanimous vote. The transfer is proposed because the sanitation line is over budget and the town expects only a few remaining weeks of operating-season expenditures before the year end.
Town officials said the transfer is intended to move internal funds, not to raise additional taxes, and that the transfer will be published in the warrant for voter review. The special town meeting takes place one hour before the board’s regular select board meeting on Dec. 18.
During public comment, several residents asked questions about recycling policy, the calculation of offsets and whether the sanitation overage could be avoided through different recycling arrangements. Board members said they will publish clearer revenue and offset details to help voters evaluate the warrant.
