Milton City Council approved a series of walk-on resolutions to acquire right-of-way needed for the 23rd Avenue widening project, a corridor improvement staff described as necessary to add travel lanes, sidewalks and stormwater facilities.
Public Works Director Madden said the project will convert substandard stretches of 23rd Avenue to two 12-foot travel lanes, add curb, gutter and storm facilities, create sidewalks for pedestrians and provide a new water line segment. Staff described a uniform per-square-foot offer after an appraisal process and read each purchase amount into the record.

Council members thanked property owners for their cooperation; resident Charity Gibney told the council she supports the project and said the stretch is hazardous for walkers. "I've walked all along 23rd...I'm extremely excited about this project," Gibney said.
Why it matters: the acquisitions remove a major barrier to pedestrian and traffic safety improvements in a corridor the city described as dangerous for walkers for decades. Council approved each resolution by voice vote.
