Limington to pursue Community Resilience Partnership grant; workshop for residents planned

Jim Kelly of the York County Soil and Water Conservation District told the Limington Select Board on Dec. 4 that the town is eligible to pursue a Community Resilience Partnership grant that could fund multiple municipal projects.

Kelly said the grant could be applied to a range of options the district presented, including installing heat pumps at the fire barn and drilling a new well to serve the Old Town Hall and the Davis Memorial Library. He told the board the award could be split across projects and can be combined with matching funds. The amount discussed in the meeting was roughly $75,000.

Kelly said the grant application is due in May and that the town must host a public workshop to gather resident input in late January or early February before the board would draft a municipal resolution to apply. "We can have multiple projects for that money," the presentation noted, and the district offered to help facilitate the application process and connect Limington with other grant opportunities down the road.

Select Board members and staff said they were encouraged by the options presented and that the town would circulate details and schedule the required workshop early next year. The board did not take formal action on the grant application at the Dec. 4 meeting beyond agreeing to pursue the outreach and resolution drafting steps before the application deadline.

Next steps: the town will schedule the resident workshop (late January or early February), decide which project(s) to prioritize, and direct staff to draft the municipal resolution and prepare required application materials before the May deadline.
