The town council voted Dec. 16 to award a forest-management contract (resolution 25-131) to Two Trees Forestry for approximately 1,000 acres of town-owned and adjacent land. The contract is phased: an evaluation report (phase one), an initial harvest (phase two) and a 10-year forest management plan (phase three).
Town Manager Jack described proposals from two firms and recommended the more compressed, lower-cost Two Trees Forestry bid. He said the evaluation report (phase one) was estimated at about $4,250 and that the initial harvest phase would be structured so stumpage proceeds offset town costs; the initial harvest was presented in the proposal as roughly 15% of stumpage estimated at around $4,500. Jack told council the faster timeline could complete the harvest by the end of 2026 under the recommended proposal.
Councilors discussed logistics and how revenue from the harvest could be earmarked for long-term town projects rather than general fund spending. The council voted to adopt the resolution and award the work to Two Trees Forestry; staff will proceed with the evaluation and then use its valuation to design the harvest and long-term management activities.
