Pittsfield’s town council voted Dec. 16 to set a public hearing for Jan. 6, 2026 on Ordinance 253, which would authorize the town to borrow up to $4,213,000 in general-obligation bonds or notes to fund multiple infrastructure projects.
Town Manager Jack summarized the ordinance’s line-item estimates: $1,230,000 for roadway drainage and related facilities in Birchwood; $823,000 for roadway construction and related repairs in Birchwood; $460,000 for replacement of water mains (Birchwood); $940,000 for water-mains and related improvements on Library Street; $140,000 for sewer upgrades (including rehabilitation on Main Street); and $620,000 for design of water-main replacement on Main Street. “Collectively the ordinance authorizes borrowing in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $4,213,000 for these projects,” Jack said.
Councilors waived the full reading of the lengthy ordinance (as provided in the packet) and agreed to schedule the required public hearing. The ordinance would take effect 30 days after adoption if approved following the hearing. The Jan. 6 hearing will be the next formal opportunity for public comment and amendment before the council considers final adoption and bond issuance.
