During the director’s report on June 16, Library Director Jeff Collins highlighted several operational and program updates: a social worker position has begun a soft launch with onboarding work under way; recruitment for the vacant assistant director position closes later this month; staff repurposed an existing book drop at the Main Library to better match current volume; and volunteers and the Davenport Public Library Foundation were thanked for running a volunteer appreciation event.
Collins also credited the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society for funding a new map case and noted that special collections staff completed a lengthy project to add Officer James Means and Raven Passig to line‑of‑duty memorial lists, including the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. He said staff obtained copyright for a local title, 'Davenport Tutorial,' which will enable future collection projects.
On citywide policy matters, Collins said the city chief financial officer and city administrator are assessing the impacts of Senate File 2472 (the property tax reform act) and expect to present more detailed information to the city council in July or August; Collins suggested the board may wish to discuss the implications at the upcoming joint meeting with the city on June 30.
Collins described the social worker rollout as a soft launch and said staff will continue training and ramping responsibilities over the coming months. He thanked staff for support during onboarding.
The board asked follow‑up questions about the June 30 joint meeting logistics and about programming such as a popular 'tater taste' class; staff clarified scheduling details and program formats.
