Selma sets July 21 public hearing for landscaping and lighting assessments

The Selma City Council on June 16 approved the preliminary engineer's report for Landscaping and Lighting Maintenance District No. 1 and scheduled a public hearing on the proposed assessments for July 21, 2026.
Public Works Director Han said staff reviewed maintenance needs, PG&E street-light charges, irrigation water costs and other expenses and found that proposed assessments are within previously authorized maximums, so no Rule 218 increase process is required. The engineer's report includes maps and parcel exhibits and shows that some zones' assessments rose while others fell depending on water usage and maintenance demands.
The council approved forwarding the report and setting the required public hearing; staff said any surplus balances would carry forward and reduce future assessments where applicable. The public hearing will give affected property owners an opportunity to protest or comment according to established procedures.
