DeSoto board approves naming courtyard planter for Violet W. Brown

The resolution directs that a suitable plaque or marker be permanently installed at the site to recognize her contributions.
Board members asked whether Brown had been notified; Dr. Bennett said she was watching the meeting on television at the time and that family members were traveling to attend. The board did not record debate or a roll-call vote tied to the resolution in the transcript; the resolution was presented and placed on the agenda as item 1038.
The naming recognizes Brown's work advising districts on facility utilization, construction requirements and safety assessments and accompanies continued oversight of the new high school's completion. The board noted the naming as a way to acknowledge long-standing technical guidance Brown provided to both rural and larger districts.
The board did not announce a date for a formal dedication beyond the existing plan to install a permanent plaque.
