Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27 that a candidate previously approved for hire has not responded to contact attempts. The chief said he has tried to make contact without success and will reach out to the regional hiring consortium (he reported 32 candidates on the list) and to the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams.
Chief Pernice said his preferred staffing level is two part-time officers but noted that only one part-time position had been authorized by the borough at this time. The council agreed to continue searching to fill one part-time officer position.
The report was presented as an operational staffing update; no formal personnel action was taken during the meeting. The chief said he will send letters and follow the Civil Service Commission’s process for tests and candidate selection as required.
