Salem Township auditors appoint chair and secretary, set pay and benefits for roadmasters

The Salem Township Board of Auditors held its re‑organizational meeting on Jan. 6 and completed a series of administrative votes to set personnel policies and appoint officers for 2026.
Auditor David Leitza moved and Nick Cornell seconded the motion to appoint Matt Rebitch as Chair of the Board; the motion passed unanimously. A subsequent motion by Nick Cornell, seconded by David Leitza, appointed Kelly Otto as Secretary; that motion also passed unanimously.
The board set the part‑time roadmaster rate at $31.40 per hour (motion by Matt Rebitch, seconded by Nick Cornell) and adopted an overtime policy that entitles full‑time roadmasters to one‑and‑one‑half times their normal hourly rate for hours worked in excess of 40 per week, including paid holidays, sick days and vacation days. The board set full‑time roadmaster vacation at 19 days per year with up to five days carried over to the following year and established a policy that carried‑over vacation must be used during the next year at the rate of pay in effect when it was earned.
Sick leave was set at eight days per year with an ability to carry over up to eight days annually and a maximum accumulation of 30 days; accrued sick time will be paid out at the hourly rate in effect when the time was earned. The auditors listed paid holidays for roadmasters (New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Day, President’s Day and one floating holiday) and approved funeral leave with up to five consecutive work days for immediate family deaths and up to two days for extended family.
The board authorized continued participation for full‑time roadmasters in the township pension and existing medical, dental, life and disability insurance plans, subject to the same terms as other full‑time employees. It approved a boot allowance of $225 per year for full‑ and part‑time roadmasters (up from $200 in 2025) and set the standard mileage reimbursement at $0.725 per mile, up 2.5¢ from 2025 as notified by PSATS.
Most motions were unanimous. The auditors tabled Resolution No. 01‑2026 (compensation confirmation) to a Jan. 21 meeting that will also be used to approve the Jan. 6 minutes; no other business will be conducted at the Jan. 21 meeting. The Jan. 6 meeting adjourned at 6:46 P.M.
