Council considered Item H, a one-year amendment (with automatic renewals) to the intergovernmental agreement between the City of Newnan and Explore Nun and Kawita Incorporated that governs the provision of city health insurance and benefits to the nonprofit’s employees. Staff told the council the current agreement was set to expire in September and that the organization’s chairman asked to continue the relationship. Staff said Explore Nun pays the full COBRA rate and covers other benefits at full rate so the arrangement imposes no net cost on the city; staff recommended approval.
Council asked how excessive claims would be covered and staff replied they would be handled in the same manner as a city employee claim under the plan. After brief discussion and a single question about fiscal impact, council members moved, seconded and approved the measure unanimously.
Outcome: Amendment approved; staff will execute the extension per the agreement terms.
