The Kenosha License & Permit Committee considered a large slate of license and permit items April 14, recommending approval for many renewals and extensions, denying one application and deferring another while applicants provide additional documentation.
The committee read and voted on multiple bartender and operator license applications, often adopting the city attorney's recommendations subject to demerit‑point conditions. During applicant hearings, Brandon Marginson of Angry Bob's explained he missed a court appearance because he misunderstood the hearing date, said he had paid to renew his license and offered to pay the $187 citation. "I take full responsibility for not being aware of this," Marginson said, and asked that the demerit points be assessed to him rather than to the business. The committee confirmed he would be assessed 40 demerit points (20 for the incident and an additional 20 for omitting it from his application).
Paul Jensen, another applicant, said he received 20 demerit points because of an open class B misdemeanor circuit court case and argued a Wisconsin precedent from the 1970s affected how that case should be treated. The chair responded that the timing and disposition of the court case are matters for the circuit court and outlined options for Mr. Jensen, including deferral or reapplication after case resolution.
The committee denied the application of Amanda Gorski on the city attorney's recommendation because of material police records and an allegedly false application. The application of Taylor Thomas was deferred so the applicant can provide details about an out‑of‑state implied‑consent offense and allow the city to assess the correct number of demerit points.
The committee recommended approval for a series of parklet renewals and temporary outdoor license extensions, approved theater license renewals and asked the Common Council to waive the license fee for nonprofit Lakeside Players Inc. Several items were approved by voice vote as recommendations to the council; the committee repeatedly noted final authority rests with the Common Council and that some approvals included standard demerit‑point conditions.
The police department reported no update. The committee adjourned following routine closing business.
