Commission approves amendment to Violet Township Fire substation plan, asks for signage plan

The Canal Winchester Planning and Zoning Commission on April 13 approved an amendment to the Final Development Plan for a new Violet Township Fire substation and recommended the amended plan to City Council with one condition: the applicant must submit a signage plan for future review.
The amendment to FDP-26-001 updates plans for an 11,125-square-foot fire substation west of the Busey Road park and includes the recently approved request to widen an access drive (applicants requested 45 feet) plus additions such as an updated water line easement and a private electrical tie-in. Jon Suhanic of ADR Innovation presented the changes on behalf of the Violet Township Fire Department; staff recommended approval, saying the wider exit drive would permit multiple emergency vehicles to leave at once and would improve site egress performance.
Commissioner Brad Richey moved to approve the amendment with the signage-plan condition; Commissioner Steve Palsgrove seconded the motion and the Commission voted 5–0 to carry the recommendation to City Council. Staff noted the amendment will require transmission to City Council for final adoption and that the applicant must submit the required signage plan before signage is permitted.
