Canal Winchester to begin street program May 4; East Waterloo paving and McGill Park work underway

He said the electrician is removing the old street lighting system on Winchester Boulevard and a signage contractor begins permanent signage installation the following day.
Sims said contractor mobilization for McGill Park Phase 2B is under way and that shelter building materials were delivered. He said the city’s 2026 street program will begin May 4 with concrete replacement first, concentrating on roads scheduled for resurfacing; initial work will likely be on Dietz Drive and Trine Street. "Most of the resurfacing is done under traffic," Sims said, adding that roadway work is typically reduced to one lane with flaggers. He said Dietz Drive will be done in halves, with about one week per half and residents losing driveway access for roughly three to four days per half when that work occurs.
Councilmember Hanna Detwiler asked how long sidewalks and curbs would be closed. Sims described the typical sequence: panels removed one day, poured the next, and protection removed the following day — about a three-day disruption for a homeowner when a panel is replaced. Curb repairs follow a similar timeline, and contractors can plate driveway approaches to preserve access.
Why it matters: the upcoming work affects multiple neighborhoods and will require brief driveway and sidewalk disruptions for residents. Staff said the phased approach is intended to limit full road closures and maintain traffic flow where possible. City staff did not list a total cost for the street program at the work session.
