YUBA CITY — The Yuba City Council unanimously approved a $2,500 community sponsorship for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, after staff explained options to encumber current fiscal‑year funds to pay for an event scheduled for early September.
Wakefield presented the request and noted the city is transitioning between fiscal years; staff recommended encumbering available funds in the current account if the council wished to support the event, and to adopt a resolution approving the sponsorship. Alisia Stewart, the event’s walk manager, told the council the sponsorship supports not just the event day but community resources and research: "Every dollar goes towards all of that," she said, citing the Association’s local programs and helpline.

Staff explained the city could use remaining community events/community contributions funds in the current fiscal year or direct funds from the upcoming budget if the council preferred; council members asked whether the sponsorship was critical to the event happening. Stewart said sponsorships are important to operations and community programming.
