DAC approves streamlined quasi‑judicial rules drafted by city attorney

At the close of its June 17 meeting the Design Adjustment Commission voted unanimously to adopt revised quasi‑judicial rules and procedures prepared as a template for DAC, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Board of Adjustment.
Whitney, representing city staff, told commissioners the city attorney's office drafted a simplified template to remove redundant language already covered in the Land Development Code, to clarify when unanimous votes are required versus quorum decisions, and to require a single training for all board members from the UNC School of Government regarding quasi‑judicial boards. Whitney invited questions and the commission then moved and seconded approval of the revised rules.
The commission did not amend the draft during the meeting. Commissioners recorded their support and the chair declared the motion passed; staff said the boards will need to vote to adopt the template as a local rule and will schedule required training.
