Council authorizes $345,722 for Fire Station No. 2 repairs, taps expendable maintenance fund

Fire Chief Jim Young and Battalion Chief Camry told the council June 15 that Fire Station No. 2 (constructed 2006) has widespread exterior rot, failing fascia and soffits, roof leaks and recurring interior water damage. The department issued an RFP and recommended a contractor; the recommended total project cost is $345,722.
Chief Young said the repairs will replace rotted trim and soffits, repair flashing and roof decking as needed, add gutters and improve exterior fixtures, and renovate a laundry/gear room to accommodate modern extractor equipment. He told the council the work is intended to stop ongoing water infiltration and prevent more expensive repairs in future years.
The council authorized the town manager to expend $345,722 from FY26 operating funds and separately approved an order authorizing up to $125,000 from the expendable maintenance trust fund to complete the project. Both motions passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will execute the contract and schedule repairs; the town manager and finance staff will manage year‑end encumbrances to preserve other departmental needs.
