The commission approved a conditional‑use request on Dec. 4 for a short‑term rental at 1211 Colonel Hawthorne Drive filed by Jeffrey and Tina Harland.
The applicants told the commission they split time between Prairie Grove and Florida and planned to list the house for short‑term stays during the months it would otherwise be vacant. They said they will prohibit events, require a minimum stay of three nights, and install fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. The Harlands said they contacted staff before applying to understand local rules; staff said a similar short‑term rental had recently been approved in Salem and that there were no additional county requirements to be met beyond the conditional‑use approval.
After a motion and second, the commission approved the conditional use by voice vote.
