Town staff briefed the Select Board on municipal solid‑waste operations tied to a contract renewal with Cassella, which the town expects to finalize before July 1.
Joe (town staff) said the new service will use larger, automated one‑person trucks to reduce worker injuries and increase safety. The standard recycling cart under the new service will be 96 gallons; staff reported about 80 residents have already asked for a smaller cart and the town is working with Cassella to provide 60‑gallon replacements for those requests. Residents who want a second recycling cart will be able to purchase one, but Cassella had not yet supplied pricing as of the meeting.
Joe also said the town will stage two large dumpsters at the Patton Homestead for residents to drop off old recycling bins after the swap (restricted to bins only) and that the dumpsters will be monitored by camera; staff expected to keep the dumpsters available through about July 15.
On timing, Joe said: "The new contract will go into effect July 1st." He added that the town will publish a form on the municipal website for residents to request a smaller cart or to order a second container.
Next steps: Cassella and the town will finalize pricing for optional second carts, town staff will post swap forms and instructions on the web and social media, and the bin drop‑off at Patton Homestead will be available for a limited period after July 1.
