Rome code-enforcement officer reports ordinance review plans; board orders $1,000 refund

ROME, Maine — Dave Savage, Rome’s Code Enforcement Officer, told the Board of Selectmen on April 21 that his office has been "fairly quiet" and that the Planning Board will be undertaking a review of town ordinances.
Savage said the Planning Board review — previously mentioned by Planning Board Chair Landry — will run through the town’s ordinances and that the Selectmen will consider any recommended amendments as they are submitted.
During his report Savage raised an older enforcement case in which town records did not support the amount of a fine. The board voted 3-0 to refund $1,000 to Steve Stanley for a fine payment made Dec. 9, 2024. First Selectman Kelly Archer later moved, and the board approved, an amendment directing that the refund be paid from contingency funds.
The selectmen did not specify a further timetable for ordinance amendments; the Planning Board will bring recommendations to the Selectmen for review. The board also handled routine financial and personnel items later in the meeting.
