Dr. K. Durant and Peter Cadieux press Beekmantown board on kennel zoning, website minutes and Verizon tower paperwork

At the March 2 work session, two audience members raised separate concerns about kennel zoning, the town website and documentation related to Verizon tower site suggestions.

Dr. K. Durant told the board that proposed changes to the Kennel Law should distinguish between family pets and working animals and said the town zoning maps (noted as a 07C overlay in her remarks) leave only about 15 parcels available for commercial kennel businesses; she named Mr. Barney’s property as one of the allowed sites. The board did not take immediate action during the public-comment period on zoning changes.

Peter Cadieux said the town website is not up to date: he said the Government section lists only the council’s third Monday meeting and that first‑meeting listings and recent minutes are missing. He noted that, under the law, minutes should be posted before the next meeting and urged the board to review paperwork related to suggested candidates for Verizon tower sites, calling for careful scrutiny of whether the towers would meaningfully improve service near the state park.

In replies recorded in the minutes, Tammy Menard and Sue Proctor said minutes will not be posted on the website until they are approved at the next meeting.
