The Clinton City Council, acting as the board of canvassers, certified the results of the Aug. 12, 2025 municipal primary and adopted Resolution 9‑25 during its Aug. 26 meeting.
City election staff presented the county‑provided totals: 12,238 registered voters and 2,711 ballots cast (22.15% turnout). Of those ballots, staff reported 2,675 were cast by mail and 36 in person; 26 ballots were not counted (24 not timely, one blank envelope and one without proof of identity). Staff read the canvass totals and candidate vote totals as provided by the Davis County Clerk and Auditor and asked the council to adopt the canvass certificate.
The council, after a motion and second, voted unanimously to certify the canvas and declare nominees to appear on the Nov. 4, 2025 general‑election ballot. The resolution named the nominees to advance; staff requested that all signing members complete the official certificate before leaving.
Why it matters: Certification is a formal administrative step that finalizes the primary results and places successful candidates on the general‑election ballot. City staff noted the legislature changed the rules this year so mailed ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on election day to be counted, increasing the importance of timely mailing or use of a drop box.
What came next: The council signed the certification and closed the canvass; staff said a full report will be posted to the city website and hard copies are available upon request.
