District rolls out Navigate 360 visitor management, panic buttons and tougher visitor protocol

An incident at the elementary school where a visitor check matched a name in a sex‑offender registry prompted the committee to adopt a protocol: the person who checks in a flagged visitor should direct them to the district office to meet with district leadership for case‑by‑case review; building administration will be notified when the visitor is en route.
Committee members discussed a recent internet outage that lasted roughly one and a half to two hours and affected phone and intercom systems, prompting consideration of a radio backup system and additional redundancies for first‑responder communications.
Safety staff reported testing of wearable devices and planned testing of campus panic buttons; placement includes access points near the high‑school office, preschool/counselor areas and strategic shop/FFA doors so first responders can be routed directly to a specific area. The district has distributed fobs across buildings and said panic buttons will trigger a robocall to first responders indicating the precise access point.
The committee also noted implementation issues with substitute teacher check‑in and the vendor’s plan to add a substitute pool feature (workaround in place: logging subs as staff). The safety lead said she will attend the school safety summit in Lincoln and return with additional practices for the administrative team.
Officials said they will continue testing and refine protocols; a scheduled test of panic buttons and related communications will occur this week as part of implementation.
