Oak Brook Park District rejects Tennis Center window bids, will reassess project

The Oak Brook Park District Board of Commissioners voted July 15 to reject all bids for the Tennis Center Exterior Windows Replacement Project after contractor estimates came in well above the architect’s suggested cost.

Deputy Director Bob Johnson told the board that contractors’ bids were higher than expected and above the architect’s projected cost, and the board agreed the difference reflected current price volatility in construction markets. Commissioner Suleiman asked whether the district had budgeted too little for the project; Johnson said the Park District would review the project and request bids again after further analysis. President Knitter noted supply-chain pressures and asked whether new window technologies could be adding to costs; board members discussed the possibility that added features such as efficiency upgrades or embedded solar could increase the price.

No motion to proceed with construction was approved; the board adopted a motion to reject all bids and directed staff to revisit the project scope and rebid at a later date. The outcome preserves the district’s ability to reassess specifications and pricing before committing funds.
