Region 12 welcomes new director of facilities; honors Teacher and Paraeducator of the Year

Regional School District 12 introduced John Calhoun as its new director of facilities and honored the district Teacher and Paraeducator of the Year at its final regular meeting of the school year.
Mrs. Grant told the board that John Calhoun was a unanimous choice of the hiring committee after Donna Liry's retirement and noted he lives close to central office. John Calhoun addressed the board: "I'm John Calhoun. I'm thrilled to be your new director of facilities here," and said he will begin on July 6.
The board publicly thanked Bill Murphy, the senior head custodian at Shap Valley School, for serving as interim director during the transition. The board also recognized Sarah Fiola, a kindergarten teacher at Washington Primary School, as Teacher of the Year and Lorie Del Torto, a paraeducator at the same school, as Paraeducator of the Year; the board read colleagues' remarks highlighting both employees' instructional skill, mentorship and contributions to school climate.
The recognitions were followed by a short refreshments break. No formal votes were required for the introductions and recognitions.
