Zeeland BPW approves participation in MPPA Commercial & Industrial Demand Response program
Summary
The Board authorized Zeeland BPW to participate in an MPPA-run C&I demand response program, enabling eligible commercial and industrial customers to receive compensation for voluntary load reductions during grid emergencies.
The Zeeland Board of Public Works voted Nov. 11 to authorize participation in the Michigan Public Power Agency's Commercial & Industrial Demand Response Project and to execute the corresponding MPPA Master Participation Agreement.
General Manager Andrew Boatright described the program, developed in partnership with Voltus, as a voluntary option for Zeeland's commercial and industrial customers to reduce electric demand during grid emergencies in exchange for compensation. Boatright said participation offers Zeeland BPW a low- or no-cost way to support system reliability, sustainability goals and local economic performance by keeping performance payments in the community.
The Board approved the resolution and the Master Participation Agreement; minutes record the motion as carried with "all voting aye." Staff will offer participation opportunities to eligible C&I customers and coordinate implementation with MPPA and Voltus.
