Park County to apply for state cybersecurity grant to boost local IT protections

Park County commissioners agreed Dec. 16 to apply for a state cybersecurity grant administered by the Montana Department of Emergency Services that would fund licensed services, security awareness training, professional development and network traffic monitoring for county IT and participating city staff.
Christy (county staff) described the award as an estimated $15,000–$25,000 with no local match required and said the grant would benefit both county and City of Livingston staff. Commissioners expressed support; one said the IT department already does a lot on cybersecurity but could use additional support.
A motion to approve submission of the grant application was moved, seconded and approved by a voice vote. Staff will prepare and submit the application if directed to proceed by the commission.
Next steps: staff to complete the application and, if awarded, implement cybersecurity training and monitoring with participating jurisdictions.
