Park County approves purchase of two sanders for road department

Park County commissioners on Dec. 16 authorized the road department to add two replacement tailgate sanders to its budget, funding the purchases from proceeds of the county’s Public Surplus auction.
Road department staff, identified in the record as Matt, told commissioners the county’s existing sanders are aging and that one machine in particular jams every five minutes, forcing crews to stop and clear the unit. Matt said the department sands about 80 miles of paved road and that the smaller surplus items currently listed on the auction site should more than cover the roughly $7,300 cost per sander (about $15,000 total for two).
Commissioners asked about coverage and cost; a member of the public online, Sabina Strauss, confirmed Matt’s mileage estimate. A motion to add the two sanders to the road department budget was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote; the transcript records ayes but does not include a roll-call tally.
The purchase will allow crews to keep sanding runs moving without the frequent manual clearing required by failing equipment, commissioners and staff said. The funding source—auction proceeds from Public Surplus—was described as sufficient for the smaller equipment items but not for larger auctioned machinery.
