Brimfield trustees approve road projects, contracts and zoning actions; set hearing on recreational marijuana

Trustees of Brimfield Township on May 14 approved multiple contracts, road projects and personnel actions and set a public hearing on a proposed prohibition of recreational marijuana. The votes were unanimous unless otherwise noted.
During public comment, resident Bob Buehl urged stronger zoning enforcement for vehicles and high grass and raised speeding concerns on Old Forge; Tom Johnson said he believes the township may be insolvent and criticized daily financial management; Robert Radoslovich raised concerns about panhandling. Trustees did not record further action in response to those remarks in the minutes.
On police matters, Trustee Nicholas Coia moved and the board approved an agreement with Focal Forensics, LLC to provide video forensic services for the Brimfield Township Police Department (MOTION #2025-155). In administration, the board approved a $9,573.47 purchase order for ARC Contracting of Ohio to replace siding and gutters on the Townhall garage, with a NOPEC fund reimbursement to be requested (MOTION #2025-156).
The board appointed attorney Patrick Watts to serve as a neutral for a pre-disciplinary hearing (MOTION #2025-157) and accepted the resignation of Scot Elting from the Board of Zoning Appeals, appointing Clayton Popik to a BZA seat and authorizing an advertisement to recruit a new alternate member (MOTIONs #2025-159, #2025-160, #2025-161). The trustees also set a public hearing to consider a prohibition on recreational marijuana prior to June 10, 2025 (MOTION #2025-158).
Roads business included approval of the Chip and Seal 2025 project bid from Ronyak for $193,321.05 (MOTION #2025-162) and approval to purchase a 2025 Ford F-350 at a cost not to exceed $52,000 (MOTION #2025-163). Parks action included approval of an ODNR Lake Management contract for McGuire Park at no cost to the township (MOTION #2025-164). The board approved buyback of two cemetery graves from Richard and Christine Myers for $600 (MOTION #2025-165).
The board convened an executive session at 9:13 AM under Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22(G) to discuss discipline and an investigation related to a public employee or official; the session ended at 9:55 AM and the meeting adjourned at 9:56 AM (MOTION #2025-167).
