County department heads provided a series of operational updates on Dec. 9 covering audits, roads and equipment, staffing, and program approvals.
County finance/audit staff said the state granted an extension to complete the county audit through March 31, 2026, to accommodate a required federal single audit; state trial balance entries remain due Dec. 31. Public works staff reported active plowing and sanding, the use of GPS tracking on graders to improve public response, and plans to list surplus items on a public auction website with proposed reserve pricing. Staff discussed delaying a major bid for the Yankee Jim (Sinks Creek) FEMA repair project until after Christmas and noted a planned auction of equipment; the public works representative suggested using some auction proceeds to purchase a replacement pickup sander (approximately $10,000) and said a new solid waste driver will start in early January.
Public works also reported that the county’s transportation operations and maintenance plan received DEQ approval for five years. Separately, museum staff described a new exhibit and events, planning staff reported draft subdivision regulations and board onboarding, and grants staff said several grant applications would appear on upcoming agendas and recommended pausing ARPA spending at the fairgrounds while federal reimbursements remain uncertain.
These updates are informational; no binding appropriations or contracts were approved at the meeting.
