Travis, representing the health department, said the assessment reflected persistent concerns about housing availability and affordability, access to health care and overall cost of living in the county. The official said the county plans to post the assessment on the county website and then pursue a community health improvement plan informed by the findings; grant opportunities could support implementation.
The health department highlighted two potential implementation priorities: expanded suicide‑prevention efforts (including collaboration with a contractor experienced in that work) and continuation or expansion of a school‑based "home squad" program that has been discussed previously with county schools. The official said the department will return to the commission before applying for grants to fund those efforts.
The board did not take action during the meeting on specific health grants; the discussion served as an informational briefing and an invitation for future board consideration if the department decides to pursue funding.
