Brimfield trustees approve police hire, seasonal road worker and 2025 paving procurement steps

Brimfield Township Trustees on May 2 approved several personnel and roads actions: hiring Jessica Matthews as a full-time police officer, hiring Todd Johnson as a part-time seasonal laborer effective May 11, 2025, and advancing the 2025 paving project for Sherman Wood Drive and Chestnut Drive by authorizing the Portage County Engineers to prepare a bid book, approving advertisement dates and scheduling a bid opening.
Trustee Nicholas Coia moved each of the motions and Trustee Sue Fields seconded. The police hire (MOTION #2025-144) directs Chief Mosley to determine the start date for Jessica Matthews. The roads hire (MOTION #2025-145) sets Todd Johnson—s start date as May 11. For the paving project, MOTION #2025-146 authorizes the Portage County Engineers office to prepare a bid book; MOTION #2025-147 authorizes advertising in the Record Courier on May 9 and May 16, 2025; and MOTION #2025-148 schedules the bid opening for May 28, 2025 at 7:45 AM before the scheduled Trustee meeting. Each motion passed with Coia and Fields recorded as yea and Trustee Mike Kostensky absent.
The actions move routine staffing and procurement steps forward; the minutes do not record public comment, competing bids, estimated project cost, or vendor selections beyond the engineers preparing the bid book. The trustees adjourned the special meeting at 8:46 AM.
