Chair Jackie Wisman told the committee she and neighboring school-committee chairs are drafting a joint letter to the state budget conference committee as it reconciles House and Senate budget proposals. The items she described as priorities are a $160 per-pupil minimum aid, creation of a foundation budget review commission, increased circuit-breaker funding, and full funding for universal free school meals.
Wisman asked for and received committee authorization to participate in finalizing and circulating the letter to other chairs and the district’s legislative delegation. The committee approved the authorization on a roll-call vote.
She said the group hopes to circulate a final letter within the next week to maximize influence while the conference committee is finalizing its compromise report.
