Pottsville reports $110,000 first‑quarter surplus; CD funds directed to water and sewer expansion

The presenter said the bulk of the surplus resulted from closing $95,000 in certificates of deposit that were redirected to water and sewer expansion and street overlay projects. "The majority of that surplus comes from the 95,000, uh, of the CDs that we closed in March to go to water and sewer expansion," the presenter said.
Officials reported the city has used about 28% of its annual budget so far, and noted investments including roughly $250,000 into public safety (about 20% of quarter expenditures) and purchases of digital forensics tools via a matching grant. The presenter said the city plans a half‑mile asphalt overlay using new equipment and will bring that item to council for approval in the coming month.
Other dashboard metrics cited included 759 combined police and fire calls for service this quarter, 387 public works work orders, three businesses approved in the last quarter and four more in the pipeline. The city also launched initiatives such as a Pottsville Welcome Program and a Safe Payment Partner Program for local businesses; a Fox 16 reporter covered the story, city officials said.
The presenter said the slides will be shared with the public after the meeting. Council requested further details be provided at future sessions as project plans and budget items progress.
