Council approves rezoning of three E. Main parcels to expand Mead Johnson I-2 site

Zeeland City Council voted Oct. 20 to rezone three parcels on East Main Avenue into the I-2 (General Industrial) zone, extending the zoning of the adjacent Mead Johnson site.
Ordinance 1040 rezoned 515 E. Main; the motion was made by Mayor Pro-Tem Tem Gruppen and seconded by Councilmember Broersma and carried unanimously. Ordinance 1041 rezoned 549 and 553 E. Main; the motion was made by Councilmember Broersma, seconded by Councilmember Timmer and carried unanimously.
Community Development Director Tim Maday told the council the Planning Commission held a public hearing and deliberated the request, ultimately adopting resolutions recommending rezoning based in part on the City Planning Consultants' Sept. 16 report. The work-study earlier that evening reviewed the Commission's process and staff recommendation to adopt both ordinances.
Public comment on the rezoning included opposition from at least one resident during the regular meeting's public comment period. Council did not record any split votes on the ordinances; both passed with all members present voting in favor.
The rezonings will be codified through Ordinances 1040 and 1041 and are effective as provided in the city code.
