The Montebello Planning Commission voted on June 4 to revoke Conditional Use Permit 03-19 for GW Montebello at 1616 Beach Street, following a staff presentation that outlined the operator's surrendered state license, expired city business license and delinquent fees.
Staff said GW Montebello requested to surrender its state license effective May 3, 2023, and had not reinstated that license or obtained a new state cannabis license to operate at the site. The city's business license for GW Montebello expired on Nov. 29, 2023, and staff reported at least $50,000 in unpaid community benefit fees as part of the record supporting revocation. Staff recommended adopting Resolution 05-26 to revoke the CUP and stated the revocation is exempt from environmental review under CEQA as an enforcement action (Cal. Code Regs., Tit. 14, §15321/Class 21 exemption).
There were no public speakers on the item. After staff closed the public hearing, a commissioner moved to revoke Conditional Use Permit number 03-19 related to commercial cannabis operations at 1616 Beach Street with recommendations 1 and 2; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll call (Commissioner Morales, Vice Chairperson Lomeli and Chairperson Medina voting aye).
The commission's action follows staff findings that the operator had surrendered its state license, did not hold an active city business license and had unpaid community benefit fees; the commission adopted the revocation as recommended by staff.
