The Santa Cruz Elementary School District Governing Board voted on multiple staffing, budget and policy matters at its regular meeting on Dec. 9, 2025, in Nogales.
The board approved two coaching appointments for the third quarter of the 2025–26 school year: Sean Doyle was approved as soccer coach and Claudia Lerma as boys volleyball coach, each at $1,500. Both appointments passed on motions (Mrs. Debbie Gonzales and Mr. Noon served as mover and seconder across these personnel items) with Dr. Pottinger, Mr. Noon and Mrs. Gonzales recorded as voting Aye; two board members were absent.
During the meeting the board also approved Revised Budget #1 for FY 2025–26 and ratified payroll and expense payments (PP00011 and associated payroll disbursements; E-2610 expenses). The budget actions and the fiscal-year budget-balance summary were reported by Mrs. Denisse Melendez and carried by recorded votes with the three present members voting Aye.
The board adopted three district policies: Policy No. 915 (Support Staff Qualifications and Requirements), Policy No. 916 (IKF — Not Applicable — High School Graduation Requirement), and Policy No. 959 (DJE — Bidding/Purchasing Procedures). Mr. Noon moved to adopt the policies and Mrs. Gonzales seconded; the motion carried with the same three members recorded as voting Aye.
After convening an executive session under A.R.S. 38-431.03 for the Superintendent/Principal evaluation, the board returned to regular session and approved the evaluation (motion by Mrs. Gonzales; second by Mr. Noon). The meeting minutes record the votes as Dr. Pottinger, Mr. Noon and Mrs. Gonzales voting Aye.
The board adjourned at 6:58 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
