Tremont Select Board adopts local food resolution, appoints EMS representatives and approves warrants

The Tremont Select Board on Monday adopted a resolution intended to protect the health and integrity of the town’s local food system and completed a series of routine governance actions, including EMS committee appointments, warrant approvals and a Cemetery Trust Fund investment.
Select Board Chair James Thurlow called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m. and the board approved its agenda by unanimous consent. The board approved the minutes of Jan. 21, 2025, on a motion by Kevin Buck, seconded by Eric Eaton; the motion passed 4–0–1 with Select Board member McKenzie Jewett recorded as abstaining.
In a bundled set of fiscal and administrative actions, the board approved FY25 warrants #74–#80 (amounts as presented to the board) on a motion by Eric Eaton, seconded by Howard Goodwin. The motion passed unanimously. The board also authorized the Treasurer to invest the Cemetery Trust Fund balance in a 12‑month certificate of deposit at The First at an annual percentage rate of 4.00 on a motion by Mr. Eaton, seconded by Ms. Jewett; that motion passed unanimously.
The board filled Tremont’s seats on the Southwest Harbor–Tremont EMS Planning Committee. On a motion by Eric Eaton, seconded by Howard Goodwin, the board appointed Select Board member McKenzie Jewett to the Tremont Select Board seat on the EMS Planning Committee (term expiring June 30, 2027); Ms. Jewett abstained and the motion passed 4–0–1. The board then appointed Town Manager Jesse Dunbar to the Town Manager seat (term to June 30, 2026) on a motion by Ms. Jewett, seconded by Kevin Buck, and appointed Keith Higgins and Heath Higgins to the Tremont Volunteer Fire Department seats (terms to June 30, 2028) on a motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Goodwin; both appointments passed unanimously.
Under regular business the board reviewed and unanimously adopted the “Resolution to Protect the Health and Integrity of the Local Food System of the Town of Tremont” on a motion by Ms. Jewett, seconded by Mr. Eaton. The board also discussed a potential summer farmers market but took no action on that item.
The board voted unanimously to change the primary use of the town’s Ram 2500 so it is assigned to the Harbor Master and available to the Public Works Department; the motion was made by Kevin Buck and seconded by McKenzie Jewett.
During the meeting the board scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. A motion to confirm the date, made by Mr. Buck and seconded by Mr. Eaton, passed unanimously.
At the close of the public meeting the board moved into an executive session to consider the acquisition or disposal of real property (Pacific Hall), as permitted by 1 MRSA 405.6.C. The board entered executive session at 6:46 p.m. and closed it at 6:55 p.m.; no motions were recorded from within the executive session. The public meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
