Ysaguirre elected board president; Olveda chosen as vice president

The Santa Cruz Valley Union High School District Governing Board reorganized its leadership at its Jan. 8 regular meeting, electing Emilio Ysaguirre as board president and Jerry Olveda as vice president.
Nominations opened for president with Jerry Olveda nominating Ysaguirre and Billy Brown nominating Olveda; Olveda declined his own nomination and Ysaguirre accepted. Ralph Moran moved to elect Ysaguirre, seconded by Brown; the motion carried with recorded votes of Olveda, Brown, Davis and Moran voting “aye.”
For vice president, Brown nominated Olveda, who accepted. Brown moved and Moran seconded the motion electing Olveda; the motion carried with Ysaguirre, Brown, Davis and Moran recorded as voting “aye.”
The reorganizational votes were routine and were followed by a motion to adopt all existing Governing Board policies and approval of the board’s 2025 meeting dates; both motions carried on voice votes recorded as unanimous among members present. The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
Next procedural steps noted by the board include a February presentation by the district audit team and submission of the FY 2025–26 academic calendar draft at an upcoming meeting.
