Alma administrator outlines projects; pool managers report maintenance issues and successful season

City Administrator Steve Ardiana briefed the Alma City Council on multiple ongoing city projects and maintenance items at the Oct. 1 meeting.
Ardiana said the HVAC unit for the auditorium is scheduled for delivery and that electrical work has been approved; the city is arranging additional water and plumbing for the Caring Cupboard, finalizing concrete sidewalks at the auditorium, completing interior finishes and pursuing furniture pricing. He reported the EV charging station and interior finish work are progressing; the library skylight delivery was estimated at about eight weeks. Ardiana said bids for the South Street lift station could go out in mid-November and noted the City of Alma Board of Adjustment approved three variance applications for Brugh Storage Site at its Sept. 29 meeting.
Pool managers Rhonda Hogeland and Courtney Stottler joined the meeting to discuss pool operations. Ardiana and the managers reported the pool was pressure washed and repainted; the council discussed training for use of the wet well to add chemicals next year. A late-season leak caused some interior damage; the vending/pop machine experienced problems and there were questions about purchases and card payments processed through the Square terminal. Overall, it was reported the pool had a good season.
No formal council action was taken on the projects at this meeting; several items will move forward through staff procurement or future agenda placement for bids and follow-up.
