Alma council approves Dick Brown Memorial Drive plat and OKs $172,474.08 in claims

The Alma City Council on Oct. 1 approved the survey and plat for Dick Brown Memorial Drive and voted to pay city claims totaling $172,474.08.

Councilman Joel Wheeler moved to approve the plat, seconded by Larry Casper. Wheeler asked that the plat include the correct legal description; the motion carried with Wheeler, Casper, Chris Mahalek and Tom Moulton recorded as voting yes. The plat describes a public street and right-of-way on the west line of Highway 183 proceeding 947.78 feet to a point of beginning and references the southwest corner of the Dennis Leonard property.

Earlier in the meeting, the council approved claims and invoices for the period Sept. 18–Oct. 1, 2025, totaling $172,474.08 on a motion by Joel Wheeler and second by Tom Moulton; Wheeler, Moulton, Mahalek and Casper were recorded voting yes. The council also accepted the treasurer’s report on a motion by Moulton and second by Mahalek; roll call recorded Moulton, Mahalek, Wheeler and Casper voting yes.

The council opened a public hearing at 5:45 p.m. on the plat after noting the Planning Commission had met Sept. 29, 2025 and recommended approval. Council asked the clerk to amend the Planning Commission minutes to include the legal description as presented before finalizing the record.

On procedural business, the council moved by Tom Moulton and seconded by Joel Wheeler to suspend an agenda item labeled “Airport Taxiway Lighting” (noting the project is complete) until the Oct. 15, 2025 meeting. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
